I’m Oliver Wells, the maker behind Wells Threadwerx. I taught myself to sew in 2020 by watching YouTube tutorials from Evelyn Wood, Cornelius Quiring, and Julija Gobere and it quickly took over my life in the best possible way. Sewing has taught me to enjoy the process in whatever pursuit and heavily influenced my decision to return to school to pursue civil engineering. I most enjoy working with reclaimed textiles and finding creative ways to give them new life. I live in uptown Chicago with my cat Bernadette and when I’m not at my machine, you can usually find me playing volleyball or sequencing another playlist — here's my sewing playlist.
The story behind my logo
I legally changed my name from Brett to Oliver in 2022. One night, my friend Millie doodled the letters of Oliver into a butterfly and I instantly felt there was something special there. Over the course of a month, I workshopped the design with my incredibly talented friends Bianca and Brian who brought my vision to life. I should also mention I'm a Mariah Carey stan and her album Butterfly is my biggest musical and style inspiration. My logo serves as a reminder that reinvention and transformation coincides with my happiness and that change is the only constant.
